It’s horrible, nobody’s denying that, but its hard to be empathetic when you equate your isolated incident to centuries upon centuries of degradation, rape, genocide, colonialism, imperialism etc. etc. that we and our ancestors have experienced.

As a POC myself, I disagree. Discrimination against white people on the basis of race is still racism. Yes, it lacks the background of an anti-white culture and history, but it remains an act of racism. Now, this is not to say that all acts of racism are the same. Context must be taken into account when trying to determine the consequences and importance of any action. Thus while a white person assaulting a black person because they are black is an action that is condoned and supported by our white supremacist culture, a black person assaulting a white person because they are white

I put the “discrimination” in quotes, because what is perceived by whites as such, isn’t, in fact. What is happening, in most cases, is that white people are being knocked off their perch, and are looking around bewildered, because they did not realize they got their due to white privilege. I wasn’t trying to intimate that discrimination in and of itself is acceptable, only that how it appears to whites is often not at all what they think it is.

Concordantly, the social and political consequences of each racist action is different. The anti-black racism serves to further terrorize an already marginalized and harassed group while the anti-white racism is an isolated incident that will be largely ignored. Both are racist but one matters a whole lot more than the other.
